How Dice Probability Works
Learn about uniform distributions, independence, and why each die roll is truly random regardless of previous results.
Learn MoreAbout Dice Roller
This tool simulates rolling polyhedral dice commonly used in tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and other systems. Each die type has equal probability for each face when rolled.
Dice Types
- d4 — 4-sided die (tetrahedron): 1-4
- d6 — 6-sided die (cube): 1-6
- d8 — 8-sided die (octahedron): 1-8
- d10 — 10-sided die (pentagonal trapezohedron): 0-9 or 1-10
- d12 — 12-sided die (dodecahedron): 1-12
- d20 — 20-sided die (icosahedron): 1-20
Probability Notes
Each roll is independent—previous results don't affect future rolls. The probability of rolling any specific number is 1/sides (e.g., 1/20 for a d20). When rolling multiple dice, the sum follows a bell curve distribution with outcomes near the average being most likely.
